Tenebris: Terra Incognita Tier List Hub
Hero value, squad roles, and promotion priorities after version 1.0.
This hub collects every ranking page for Tenebris: Terra Incognita after the September 14, 2026 version 1.0 launch. The game left Early Access with 23 heroes, deep career trees, and a much larger late-game roster, so raw power and campaign value are no longer the same question. Use these lists to decide who earns scarce experience, hospital beds, and legendary gear—not to declare a single mandatory squad.
How we rank heroes
Tiers here weigh four practical axes:
- Mission clear speed — how reliably a hero deletes priority targets or stabilizes a bad spawn.
- Survivability cost — how much tanking, healing, or positioning they demand from the rest of the squad.
- Career ceiling — how strongly level 11 and 21 promotions change their kit.
- Squad flexibility — whether they only shine in one composition or slot into several cores.
S-tier means you want them leveled and geared early on most difficulties. A-tier means excellent with the right support. B-tier is solid but replaceable. C-tier can still clear content; they simply lose contested roster slots when resources tighten.
Balance still moves. Phantasmica Studios iterated talent trees repeatedly through Early Access, and hotfixes after 1.0 can nudge burn, armor ignore, or heal numbers. Treat any list as a snapshot, then re-check after patch notes on the Updates Hub.
Start here
- Hero Tier List — Miles, Pellentes, Sancto, Vidua, Legionnaire, Centurio, Phoenix, Librator, and the Defencor / Medicus lines ranked for 1.0 campaigns.
- Best Squads — early damage duos, tank-plus-healer cores, and late mech pairs such as Centurio with Phoenix.
- Builds — sniper cores, Miles duos, mech packages, Librator hybrids, and when to pivot at levels 11 and 21.
New commanders should still finish Getting Started before optimizing tiers. If you do not know when careers unlock, read the Career System page first—promotion timing matters more than raw base-class damage.
Reading the roster correctly
Tenebris is single-player only. There is no ranked ladder, so “meta” means efficient campaign play: fewer reloads, healthier Solaris stockpiles, and cleaner boss attempts. A flashy damage dealer who forces constant hospital visits can be worse for your economy than a slightly slower but self-sufficient frontliner.
The five basic archetypes—Miles, Pellentes, Defencor, Medicus, and Technicus—still define early roster building. Advanced careers such as Impetum, Sancto, Vidua, Legionnaire, Ignifer, Centurio, Phoenix, and Librator rewrite roles at levels 11 and 21. A hero’s tier often jumps a full letter grade after the right promotion. That is why this hub separates individual hero rankings from full squad compositions.
Boss pressure also changes valuations. Burst snipers punish soft elites; burn tanks and flamethrower careers punish swarms; healers and armor regenerators matter more when world bosses stretch fights past ten turns. Cross-check rankings against the Version 1.0 notes if you are returning after a long EA break.
Investment priority tips
- Feed experience to one primary damage dealer and one stabilizer before spreading levels evenly.
- Plan careers before you hit the soft caps near levels 11 and 21 so talent resets are intentional.
- Keep at least one flexible tank or tech on the bench for map objectives and lockpicking value.
- Re-evaluate after each major balance note on the Patch History timeline.

What this hub is not
These pages are not paid endorsements, not official Phantasmica rankings, and not a promise that every S-tier pick works on every seed. Miss chances, armor values, and formation drag still punish greedy openings. Use the lists as a decision framework, then adapt to the mission briefing in front of you.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
Are these tiers for version 1.0?
Yes. Rankings assume the September 14, 2026 1.0 roster with 23 heroes. Recheck after major balance patches listed on the Updates Hub.
Should I bench everyone who is not S-tier?
No. B- and C-tier heroes still clear missions. Prioritize scarce XP and gear for higher tiers, but keep specialists for locks, burns, or map roles.
Do promotions change a hero’s tier?
Often yes. Level 11 and 21 careers can rewrite kits. Rank the promoted form when you evaluate long-term investment.
Is there a PvP tier list?
No. Tenebris: Terra Incognita is single-player. These lists measure campaign value, not competitive ladder play.
